How Important Is Link Popularity Anyway?

One of the important aspects that Google uses in ranking a site is "link popularity" based on links pointing to it. An interesting article can be found here in regards to this important issue.

Probably the 3 most important things in a site ranking well, are a good "Title Tag" in the head section of your site; good content in your site; and good quality links pointing inbound to your site from other sites. Obviously the latter is the most difficult to achieve and usually takes place over a period of time.
